ively music, sparkly clothes,
friends, and lots of cheer—
what’s not to love about a
party? But for the weight-
watchers, the party season
can be distressing. How many of us
can ignore the sizzling gravies and
rich butter chicken? If you go weak in
the knees, we have a survival strategy.
With the help of our nutrition experts,
Gayatri Chatrath (who has given us
the calorie counts); Dr Sonia Kakar,
nutritionist, Delhi; Jyoti Arora, Team
Leader, Nutrition and Dietetics,
Artemis Health Institute, Gurgaon; Dr
Vishakha Shivdasani, medical doctor and
nutrition expert, Mumbai, we identified
popular party drinks and dishes and tell
you which is the lesser evil. ■
If you are watching calories,
skip the Bloody Mary, but if
you are a health-o-holic, enjoy
the lycopene-rich tomato juice
that is heart-friendly. It is also
a filling drink. A sneaky way to
stave off calories: load your glass

Lim e Juice: 120 cal
A delicious sweet drink, the Pina
Colada loses the race because
of the coconut milk, cream, and
sweetener. Ask the bartender to go
easy on sugar. Juice drinkers: dilute
juice with the soda or water to
bring down the excess calories.

m l): 121 cal
A no-brainer! Stifle your love for
the Irish Cream if you want to fit
into your LBD. A consolation: wine
is rich in antioxidants and will give
you some health benefits too.
C oke (350 m l): 145 cal v s
Fresh Lim e Sod a (sw eet)
(350 m l): 55 cal
The calorie difference is too much
to ignore. Skip the cola and give
your body the lemon-detox benefit.
